The Coalition Against WestCONnex (CAW), a network of community groups opposed to WestConnex, is calling for the immediate halt to Stage 3, the M4-M5 Tunnel, in light of new satellite imaging analysis which reveals that the tunnelling is responsible for much greater ground settlement and potential property damage than predicted by the Berejiklian Government and the Environmental Impacts Statements for the project.

In an historic first, residents across Sydney have been forced to start logging the severe damage being done to their homes along the WestConnex route as the State government, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), Sydney Motorway Corporation and a number of private contractors deny natural justice for families confronting damage that runs into hundreds of thousands of dollars.

WestCONnex Action Group (WAG) welcomes the decision of the NSW Public Accountability Committee Inquiry into the impacts of WestConnex to hold an extra hearing day to recall Roads & Maritime Services (RMS) and the Dept of Planning to explain their earlier evidence.

THE COALITION Against WestConnex (CAW), a network of community groups opposed to WestConnex, notes that on 23 November 2017 the NSW Planning Department published a record breaking 13,000+ submissions on the WestConnex Stage 3 EIS, and the overwhelming rejection of the project by City of Sydney and Inner West Councils, community groups and other organisations.

However, CAW is concerned that the Department has deliberately downplayed the breadth and depth of community opposition by stating in its media release that submissions were mainly coordinated by CAW which it described as a “a local group” opposed to the project.

THE COALITION Against WestCONnex (CAW), a network of community groups opposed to WestConnex, will today, 16 October 2017, submit more than 10,000 objections against the WestConnex Stage 3 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). 

VOTERS in the Inner West Council elections on 9 September overwhelmingly supported candidates strongly opposed to WestConnex, including Pauline Lockie, one of WestCONnex Action Group (WAG)’s founders, elected as an independent in the Stanmore Ward.
